Shotcut Review – Free program for video editing

There are not so many quality and free video editors, especially those of them that offer a really wide possibilities of non-linear editing. Shotcut – one of these video editors and is a free open source code for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X with all the basic features for video editing, as well as some additional features that are not found in similar products.

Among the functions of editing and program opportunities – time panel with any number of video and audio tracks, filters support (effects) for the clips, including Chroma Key, alpha channels, video stabilization, and not only, transitions (with the possibility of downloading extra) of work support on multiple monitors, hardware-accelerated rendering, working with 4K videos, support of HTML5 clips during installation (and the built-in editor the HTML), export of video in almost any possible format (with the appropriate codecs) without restrictions. Level Meter – audio signal level for a single audio track or entire Timeline.

Properties – display and setting properties of selected item on the timeline – video, audio, transition.

Play List – a list of files to be used in the project (you can add files to the list of simple drag and drop from Windows Explorer, and from it the same way – on the time line).

Filters – different filters and settings for the selected item on the timeline.

Timeline – display including of the Timeline.

Encoding – encoding and output of the project in the media file (render). In this configuration the choice of formats is really wide. Even if you do not need Shotcut the editing functions can be used as an excellent video converter.

The implementation of some actions in the editor seemed not familiar: for example, we did not understand why the rollers in the time line is always added an empty gap, is as different from the usual creation of transitions between video segments (need take up space, and then – to drag the video part on the other to get the transition, and to select the type and settings – select an area with the transition and open the “properties”).
